While raps about cars, drugs and booze are bountiful in today's hip-hop landscape, there is a fine art to gastronomical lyricism, AKA food raps (even Twitter has joined in on the fun). Pioneered by rappers-with-appetite The Fat Boys and cuisine focused lines in hip-hop's first hit "Rapper's Delight," the food rap continues on as one of hip-hop's fine arts, with culinary lines making for memorable lyrics in hit records throughout hip-hop's history. Grab a plate as we serve up hip-hop's all-time top-ten food raps.

10. Clipse "Popular Demand"

That new CL slide / Outside of Popeyes, eatin' chicken and fries

Clipse paints a nice picture on "Popular Demand;" cruising through the Popeyes drive-thru in a Benz. To activate baller status, throw your biscuits through the sunroof at 90 MPH because you don't give a f*ck.

9. Ice Cube "it Was A Good Day"

No barking from the dog, no smog
And momma cooked a breakfast with no hog
I got my grub on, but didn't pig out
Finally got a call from a girl wanna dig out

People say hip-hop is negative, but this lyric not only promotes a healthy diet but also encourages proper portion control. Kudos Mr. Cube.

8. Jay-Z "Girls, Girls, Girls"

Now that's Spanish chick, French chick, Indian and black
That's fried chicken, curry chicken, damn I'm gettin' fat
Arroz con pollo, french fries and crepe
An appetite for destruction but I scrape the plate

That's cool. But in reality something tells us that Jay's current chick isn't exactly cooking up dinner between the video shoot and the Grammy dress fitting.

7. Method Man on Wu-Tang Clan "METHOD Man"

Patty cake patty cake hey the Method Man
Don't eat Skippy, Jif or Peter Pan
Peanut butter, cuz I'm not butter
In fact I snap back like a rubber
Band, I be Sam Sam I am
And I don't eat green eggs and ham
Style will hit ya, wham!, then goddamn
You be like oh sh*t that's the jam

It strikes us that Method Man is a bit of a picky eater, ironically. You'd think after 14 blunts he'd have an appetite for something sweet. Or something Seuss.

6. Cam'ron "Get em Girls"

Y'all faking the fizzle, I'm caking for shizzle
F*ck a Sizzler steak, my steak stay sizzled

"Get em Girls" has some of the most impressively confounding lyrics in rap history. For example this particular food rap - if it's a Sizzler steak, isn't there a pretty good chance it would stay sizzled? Discuss.

5. MF Doom "Kookies"

Don't mess with the Ritz Bits, Wheat Thins, Saltine Triskits
Matzos and Cheez-Its
Catch sugar fits every time he sees a nice pair of...
Chips Ahoy double chocolate chunk
Something with the bubble and the junk in the trunk

MF Doom's underground classic MM Food featured more than a mouthful of food titled raps. Although it's sparse on actual food rap lines, his ode to cookies and milk (bags) could be one of the genre's finest mouth watering rhymes.

4.
Fat Boys "All You Can Eat"

Give me some chicken, franks, and fries
And you can pass me a lettuce. but I'm a pass it by

It was tough to pick one Fat Boys lyric in particular, since they are, as we know, fat as crap. That said, this ode to the all-you-can-eat buffet really whet our appetite for a few more morbidly obese food raps.

3. Sugar Hill Gang "Rapper's Delight"

Have you ever went over a friends house to eat
And the food just ain't no good
I mean the macaroni's soggy, the peas are mushed
And the chicken tastes like wood

Perhaps the earliest of all food raps, the Sugarhill Gang's exploration of crappy home cooking looks quaint by today's standards (see our next food rap).

2. Three Six Mafia "Sippin' On Some Sizzurp"

We eat so many shrimp, we got iodine poisoning

Now that's a next level food rap. Comparing Sugar Hill to Three Six nicely sums up the evolution of rap - from homey realism to extravagant excess. By the way, you'd really have to eat quite a bit of shrimp to be poisoned.

1.
Notorious BIG "Big Poppa"

So we can steam on the way to the telly go fill my belly
A t-bone steak, cheese eggs and Welch's grape

We'll always love Big Poppa. And Big Poppa will always love a nice meal and the company of a young lady.
