It's Halloween, the time of year where we celebrate all things scary, creepy and gross -- and art toys are no exception. While toy companies like McFarlane Toys and NECA are tops at rendering our favorite frightening movies into collectible figures (like this new, freakish "Exorcist" toy, for instance), there are some art toys that are made to be even more gruesome, if only because they have the freedom to do so. StreetLevel takes a look at some recent original art toy creations that are highly imaginative... yet scare the living crap out of us.
PlaSeeBo Custom's Specimen No.X-50U2
Made especially for the "Halloween Massacre" show being held in Tokyo by PlaSeeBo Custom's lead artist Bob Conge, this piece shows what looks like some sort of alien creature shoved in a jar. As if that wasn't creepy enough, when you turn out the lights, the thing glows in the dark to reveal what looks like a human skull. Perfect to put in the pantry...

Ferg's Playge Rat Sculpted Hands
Recently, artist Ferg (see Project Squadt), showed off photos of these Playge Rat sculpted hands. Made for a not-yet-finished 1/6-scale figure, the artist said that, "they will be attached to a figure and they will hold cool sh*t." The scariest part? They're based on his own hands. Yikes.

Timmy's Revenge by NEMO
Created by Michael Mendez, a.k.a. NEMO, is this gooey black baby... thing. Made for the Terminal 22 3D Canvas group customs show, it's 10-inches tall and is just the stuff your worst nightmares are made of. And nightmares will have to do, because Timmy's been sold to one proud twisted papa.

Dehara x Le Merde x David Horvath Figure For Giant Robot
Exclusive to Giant Robot's "Biennale 2: 15 Years" show is this collaboration between Dehara, Le Merde and David Horvath. This figure comes with three interchangeable heads, one of which looks like a middle-aged man with giant ears, hollow eyes, horns and tusks. He looks like an extra character from the Mos Eisley Cantina on Tattooine, and if you really want him, you can grab him during the show when it opens at the Los Angeles Japanese American National Museum on October 24th.

Emilio Garcia's Neon Pink Jumping Brain
Artist Emilio Garcia has made this bright pink brain with frog legs... which sits atop a faux fur base. Limited to 20 pieces, it's available only at Urban Angel for $237. Yeah, we're still scratching our heads on this one...

Erick Scarecrow's Headbanger Niji
This eight-inch handpainted resign by artist Erick Scarecrow looks like the little brother of Iron Maiden's undead mascot Eddie. The second figure from the Liquis series, it shows off a topless head with multiple colors, headphones and bloodshot eyes sans pupils. Limited to 20 pieces, it comes signed and numbered by the artist and is only sold at the Tomenosuke shop in Japan.

Jin Young Yu's 'A Family In Disguise' See-Through Sculptures
These doll-like sculptures from artist Jin Young Yu are intriguing yet also scary-as-hell. Made with glass bodies but bearing sad or expressionless faces, Yu's work is comparable to those spooky twins we can't forget from "The Shining." We wouldn't want these dolls staring at us when we're home alone. Very unsettling.

Glenda Rolle's Pesticide Dolls
These dolls are as cute and cuddly as their namesake (translation: not very). These "Pesticide Dolls" by Glenda Rolle are made with red sand, have wired stitching and include rusty nails protruding from them (as well as just one "blinky eye"). Only 10 were created, and each are going for $220 and come signed by the artist. If you plan to buy of these, we recommend getting a Tetanus shot first...

PlaSeeBo Custom's Ghost Girl
Forget that severed doll head with robot legs from "Toy Story": This makes that toy look huggable. Another custom piece made by PlaSeeBo for the "Halloween Massacre" show, this Ghost Girl has a severed doll's head attached to octopus tentacles. As if it weren't grotesque enough, it also has an internal multi-color LED unit, which glows to make it look even creepier.

Jay222's Custom 'Salvador' Zombie Qee
Specializing in horror-themed toys, artist Jay222 made this custom, three-foot zombie Qee titled "Salvador." And it's not just a "regular" zombie with pale skin and fake blood -- this thing is visceral, with white eyes, gnarled teeth and crusted blood and bile. Even though it's got an adorable "Night of the Living Dead" T-shirt and flannel, we'll never look at Toy2R's typically cute creations the same. You can still get this one-of-a-kind piece for $3600.
