Unless you've been chauffeured around in a Roll-Royce during your pre-collegiate days, chances are that your dorm room sucks, as in, it's a reflection of the room you had in high school. Actually, it can turn out to be worse that that, as you may fall into the trap that most college kids do, and cop all your furnishings from IKEA and spend the first week of class getting your Bissa to match up to your Sultan Alsarp. Spare your self the embarrassment of a cookie-cutter college experience by dressing up your dorm with StreetLevel's back-to-school dorm design guide.
Entertainment
TVForget what you heard; size matters, especially when it comes to TVs. But, since your living in dorm, you don't want to go overboard, so settle for a nicely proportioned LCD, like a 32" Samsung LCD ClassTV which boasts 720p resolution, two HDMI inputs, and a PC interface. (starts at $500 Samsung.com)
Video GamesUnless you plan on not getting laid for the next four years, you're going to want to opt for a Playstation 3 Slim, instead of an XBOX 360. Not to say that the XBOX isn't a great gaming machine - but the temptation of LIVE and all of its games may will put a damper on your love life. Plus, with the PS3's Blu-Ray drive, you'll be able to take all your viewing hi-def by watch Rambo with the homies, and The Notebook with the honeys. (Roffle at you watching The Notebook) ($299; sonystyle.com)
StereoAfter you've set up your visual game, you're going to want to match it with the correct sound system. While most of the surround sound sets on the market will suffice, you're going to want to go wireless, simply to preserve the aesthetics of your set up, maximize your space and skip the wires. Panasonic's SC-PT960 DVD Home Theater System not only provides clean, crisp sound and deep bass but also comes with an iPod dock, making your room the perfect spot for end of the semester parties. Just remember to hide that copy of The Notebook before you kick off beer pong. ($499; Panasonic.com)
Headphones At some point your roommate's going to want to study and won't want to put up with you racking up headshot trophies in "Call of Duty 4." Keep the peace with a pair of Sennheiser HDR-130 Wireless Binaural headphones, which feature switchable surround sound and allows you roam freely and quietly. ($80; bhphotovideo.com)
Furnishings
Chair Chances are you'll be parked in a chair most of the time you're in your dorm – whether you're studying or bagging up narcotics is entirely up to you, but you're going to want to be comfortable either way. Invest in a good ergonomic chair, like Knoll's Chadwick Chair which was designed by Don Chadwhick, the designer of the iconic Herman Miller Aeron. Same effect, but for a fraction of the price. ($540; knoll.com)
RugYou always want people to know your status right from the door, you can do that -- literally -- with this OriginalFake x G1950 - KAWS Companion Area Rug. Featuring the face of KAWS's now iconic "Companion," this is a piece you actually don't want people to step all over. So it's shoes off for "bros" entering the room and everything off (hopefully) for the ladies. This piece was released in '08 so it might be a little hard to find but where there's a will there's an eBay.
(Around $250; eBay.com)
LampMost college dormitories come stocked with a desk, so you're stuck with that one until you check out or pile drive your roommate onto it. While you will be stuck with a sub-standard desk, your light source can be anything but, especially if you opt for illumination CB2's Peek Table Lamp, which is clad in silver and features a chrome plated shade. ($30, CB2.com)
Misc.
Robotech SuperScale VF1J MaxThere's not real reason to have a five-foot tall, non-functioning robot in your room except for the simple fact that it looks awesome. Plus, what else are you going to hang your coat on? (Price by request; toynami.com)
Michael Jordan x Shepard Fairey x Upper Deck PosterWhat's a dorm room without posters? Show people how sporty yet artsy you are with Shepard Fairey's tribute to the greatest roundball player of all time, and recent Hall of Fame inductee, Michael Jordan. ($500-$1,500
at upperdeck.com)
Durex Extra Sensitive CondomsBecause we hope you "get some" and "get some" safely. (At your local drugstore; prices may vary)

Yep I got my son a really nice ergonomic chair because I figured he'd be in it studying all the time. I got it for a really good price though, it's really sharp though. One of those aerons. The site is called officedesignsoutlet.com and I would highly suggest going there for lower priced but still really, really quality office chairs.
