A lock for a spot the moment he retired, both times, Michael Jordan was finally inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame on September 11. In celebration of #23's latest honor, artist Shepard Fairey teams with Upper Deck to drop the Michael Jordan Hall of Fame Tribute Series Prints, which feature renderings of Air Jordan at his best. The silk screened prints capture MJ as a college basketball player ("UNC Jordan"), NBA superstar ("Chicago Bulls") and now as a (long) certified NBA legend ("Hall of Fame Portrait"). Yeah, we'd all rather forget the Washing Wizards chapter of the Jordan legacy.
More after the jump.
The prices to own these works of art rise in cost in accord with their exclusivity. While the smaller prints (18"X24") will run you back $216 (only 523 made) for the set of three and $80 individually, the 26"X36" version of the set which will be autographed by both Fairey and Jordan (only 50 of these) will set you back $4500. The signed 26X36 sets are available September 17 and will be available individually ($1500 - $500) five days later, while all versions of the 18X24 prints go on sale September 29; all can be purchased at Fairey's Obey Giant website (via Upper Deck).
Top dollar indeed--it's like Air Jordans have ever been affordable, right?--but considering Fairey's renown, Michael Jordan being Michael Jordan, and each print having a serial number, these are a genuine investment.
